A survey conducted in April 2024 by Cifras y Conceptos for Worldcoin found that 71% of respondents were concerned about the increase in fraud and misinformation due to more sophisticated online bots. Additionally, 63% were worried about the growing difficulty in distinguishing between human-created content and that generated by artificial intelligence.

It uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP) to protect public keys and prevent tracking across applications. The system also implements secure multiparty computation (SMPC) to encrypt iris codes into multiple secret parts, managed by different trusted entities.

Moreover, World ID offers the option to store personal information securely on the user’s device rather than on the orb and allows for the permanent deletion of the iris code for those who wish to de-verify their World ID, providing greater control over personal data.
