  • VeChain may play a prominent role in fighting climate change through the switch to plant-based meat products.
  • Blockchain technology is now featuring prominently in the multi-billion dollar sustainability industry.

The fight against climate change has been considered one of the foremost in the 21st Century and VeChain is playing a key role on this front. As a blockchain technology, the protocol is being posited to help champion the transition from animal-based meat products to plant-based products.

According to the outline of China’s Food and Nutrition Development (2014-2020) prepared by the General Office of the State Council, plant-based food is recommended to be adopted as the primary source of food while animal sources should be supplemented. The rationale for this recommendation is based on the fact these options can help reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions by a significant percentage.

Specifically, the report citing estimates from several platforms, adopting plant-based meat alternatives from now until 2030 can help reduce CO2 emissions by 66.21 million tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent. This amount of Carbon Dioxide absorbed would have been achievable by planting 13.2 billion trees in a year until that point.

While there are tree-planting initiatives in the world today, the switch from animal protein to plant-based meat protein can be an easy fix for the fight toward sustainability. While many may argue that this supposedly easy fix is a long shot, technologies branded by the VeChain protocol can help accelerate and guide this achievement.

As a blockchain service, companies looking to pivot into plant-based meat processing can utilize the VeChain protocol for their data storage and subsequent sustainability tracking. The technology can also be utilized in boosting up the supply chain of this multi-billion dollar industry to help provide the needed efficiency for growth.

The transition cannot be subject to normal digital databases as new risks may arise that only blockchain-hinged security measures can help sustain.

Beyond VeChain, blockchain integration is growing

While VeChain is positioning itself for the eventual embrace as it concerns the fight against climate change through nutritional repatterning, it shows blockchain technology’s versatility is on the rise. As it relates to the fight against climate change, blockchain adoption is growing immensely.

As reported earlier by Crypto-News Flash, the Chainlink Network was adopted by a coalition of the OpenEarth Foundation and the University of California Berkeley to help fight climate change. While the integration entails Chainlink providing oracle services that can help power accurate carbon credit pricing, it also shows that the applications of blockchain innovations have no limits.

Other crucial partnerships involving blockchain services have been reported over the past year with VeChain featuring prominently well. The protocol’s superior tech was also deployed for sustainable biofuel production in partnership with UCO Network, a blockchain-based ESG-focused biofuel platform.

Despite the relatively young age of blockchain technology, its relevance in a number of established markets is now being showcased with firms going all the way in.
