On Sunday, June 19, Shiba Inu developers announced a community vote for Shiba Inu’s governance token ‘BONE’. The vote seeks to make Bone ShibaSwap (SHIB) the ‘gas’ of the Layer-2 solution Shibarium Protocol.
This means that BONE shall be essential to conduct any transactions taking place on the Shibarium protocol. As said, Shibarium is the Layer-2 protocol developed by Shiba Inu developers and xFUND. It will facilitate the co-existence of all native internal projects, external resources, and platforms to build towards decentralization.
As per the blog post from Shiba Inu, the authority of BONE users to validate and verify transactions is currently under discussion. But if the BONE token secures enough votes as the governance token, its users will have the opportunity to farm and hold $BONE.
This passive income-generating ability will also be one of the biggest benefits of the ShibaSwap platform, said the developers. In the blog post, the developers wrote:

Validators will have a key role to play
In their blog post, the Shiba Inu team also mentioned the role that validators will have to play. For Shibarium to function effectively, every transfer that goes through the network needs to be validated. As the Shiba Inu blockchain uses Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus model, the validators will have to lock in a certain amount of $BONE in order to validate transactions.
One of the bigger challenges to developers in the $BONE community is to safeguard the 20 million BONE for the upcoming development of Shibarium. If 20 million $BONE tokens need to be reserved, then the award reserves for Shiba Swap BONE could dry up in a matter of few weeks.
It means that the $BONE capping has to be limited to 230 Million. So far, more than 225 Million $BONE have been already minted. Since the decision affects the broader developer community, the developers are conducting a vote through Doggy DAO. Thus, the SHIB army has two options present.
- Halt BONE farms as they reach the cap of 230 million. This will help to save the required 20M for validators.
- Mint over 20M BONE thereby increasing the total cap to 270 million which will be into circulation later.
Starting from June 19, the vote will run for 7 days.
