  • Smart contract platform RSK has announced the identity feature “rLogin” for RIF with support for Bitcoin and Ethereum’s network.
  • Users will be able to take control of their data to use it in Web 2 or Web 3 applications or to create a digital reputation.

In a press release shared with CNF, RSK Networks announced the launch of rLogin. Part of the suite of tools that make up the RSK Infrastructure Framework (RIF), rLogin is a feature compatible with Bitcoin and Ethereum networks that allow users to take control over their personal information.

According to the release, applications that enable this feature will allow their users to authenticate and store their data via cryptocurrency wallets. In this way, they will be portable and compatible with Web 2.0 and Web3 applications.

Use cases for RSK Network’s feature

Users will also be able to leverage stored data to build a digital reputation. Thus, they will be able to dispense of intermediaries, such as banks or apps from digital companies, and remain “in full control of how their data is used and managed”.

Among the use cases, apps will be able to leverage upon enabling the feature are a front-end that allows interaction with a blockchain through a wallet choose by the user. This feature has a “pre-designed user experience” for registration and login.

In addition, the feature has an authentication back-end for users utilizing their wallet addresses as decentralized identifiers. The information provided is stored in a “data vault” with a user-centric focus and a cloud service.

Finally, rLogin provides full support and compatibility for the W3C SSI Standard for decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials (VCs). The release states that rLogin is “the first solution” to handle self-sovereign identification in any application that has native support for Bitcoin and Ethereum using the RSK network.

rLogin is open source and is already incorporated with Metamask, Nifty, Liquality, and WalletConnect. Other wallets will come soon while developers interested in integrating rLogin can use the suite of tools on GitHub. More information can be found on their Developer Portal.

Milton Berman, Identity Product Owner for RIF, had this to say about the launch of rLogin:

rLogin is a huge step towards achieving Self-Sovereign Identity while simplifying the way to interact with the blockchain. We are very excited to see these integrations giving users the flexibility to control their own data and move their crypto assets and reputation across platforms.
