In a recent statement, the founder of Empower oversight stood behind the journalist. The founder revealed that the SEC has failed to remain transparent with the public. The founder added that the SEC owes the public a transparency on the exclusive information it had about Hinman’s speech. Jason Foster, the Founder and President of Empower Oversight said.
The SEC has consistently stonewalled any attempts from public interest transparency organizations, including Empower Oversight, to shine a light on conflicts of interest and ethical questions at the agency. The public deserves answers from the SEC as to what exactly the agency knew about Hinman’s speech and when they knew it.
It is worth noting that Empower Oversight filed a records request with the SEC back in December. The filing was made in a bid to put an end to the regulatory’s continuous delays. The SEC refused to carry out a thorough search for records of communications using the list of names that the regulatory body had asked Empower Oversight to provide. The SEC would go on the ignore the filing from the organization.
Prior to that, Empower Oversight filed an opposition to the SEC’s motion for summary judgment. This is pertaining to the current FOIA lawsuit. It was made with regard to the documents tied to the conflicts of interest and selective endorsement in cryptocurrency cases. Empower Oversight acknowledged that the filing was triggered by an August 2021 request from its platform, which is still a main topic of discussion in the current FOIA lawsuit launched against the SEC.
