  • IOTA’s GoShimmer protocol may take longer than planned before going live.
  • Its top research engineer confirmed additional fixes being made to perfect the product.

For months since the plans for the next iteration of IOTA were revealed, many ecosystem partners have been anxiously anticipating the events that will eventually usher in this new era. Dubbed IOTA 2.0, a protocol that is bound to make the network more functional by removing the central coordinator factor from the system.

While the Coordicide upgrade which is billed to usher in the IOTA 2.0 is still being anticipated, ongoing work on the GoShimmer protocol is bound to take a bit longer according to an update from top Research Engineer, Jonas Theis.

The GoShimmer protocol is designed as a prototype node software exploring the implementation of IOTA 2.0. With the developmental efforts and testing being implemented on the GoShimmer network reflecting what will become of IOTA 2.0, many industry stakeholders have kept a keen eye on the development of the team.

Jonas revealed that the team is working on additional fixes for the protocol in order to correct bugs and make it as usable as possible. According to him, the team has been doing a lot of cleaning and refactoring of the codes as it looks to enhance the portability of the protocol for the new node software that is being designed.

It is not unusual to see developers spend additional time on new innovations as they make attempt to push the prospective product to a perfect fit for the market. IOTA has been a very dominant protocol when it comes to massively functional applications for the real world. It has garnered a major reputation that the GoShimmer developers are looking to uphold as they build out the protocol.

The idea behind IOTA 2.0 is such that it requires perfection before it hits the market and the time being spent on the development has been tagged by keen observers as something that will be worth everyone’s time in the long term.

GoShimmer and Growing IOTA 2.0 Embrace

While the GoShimmer development is still in progress, a lot of industry stakeholders are already pledging immense support for the protocol. As reported earlier by Crypto News Flash, the native token of the Shimmer network, SMR was set to be listed on a number of digital currency trading platforms like Bitpanda.

Bitpanda specifically asked the Shimmer Twitter handle when the token will be available, a show of support for the project as a whole.

There is no defined timeline as of now as to when GoShimmer will eventually be ready for launch. According to Jonas, there are no plans to make any significant changes to the codebase anymore, a confirmation that shows the remaining tasks to be done is just superficial.

In all, the outlook of IOTA as a next-generation protocol is growing and with the potential launch of EVM compatibility, its functionalities can thus grow beyond that of its top competitors.
