  • The Eggfruit upgrade for Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta will launch on September 30, 2024, improving network performance and stability.
  • A new sequencer by Gateway will boost transaction speed and allow for more complex transactions with double zkCounters.

Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta is preparing for a significant upgrade that will improve its performance and stability, according to its announcement on X. The Eggfruit upgrade, currently live on the testnet, is expected to be deployed on the mainnet after a 10-day time lock.

This upgrade will improve and speed up the transaction processing experience for developers, dApps, and chains developed using the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK).

The new sequencer is one of the new additions to the Eggfruit upgrade. This sequencer has been created by the team behind Ethereum’s Erigon client and will facilitate better transaction ordering and higher throughput. The cdk-erigon sequencer allows for more tps (transactions per second), which augments the network’s general stability.

Polygon zkEVM is already known for its ability to manage high levels of network activity, but the Eggfruit upgrade will further solidify its capabilities by creating a more stable environment for developers and users alike. This update will show actual numbers of the network’s performance under additional load once it is completely live.

Doubled zkCounters Allow for More Complex Transactions

It also enhances the stability features of the Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta. Polygon’s PoS chain has already demonstrated its capability to scale to large numbers of transactions, and the Eggfruit upgrade aims to bring similar capacity to zkEVM.

One of the important technical improvements that have been brought in with this upgrade is a doubling of zkCounters. These counters control the computational resources that are used for proof generation. Doubling the zkCounters will allow the network to handle more intricate transactions which will only benefit dApp developers and enhance the versatility of the system.

Another alteration is the removal of support for the old-style RPC Node. In the last month, the cdk-erigon RPC Node was adopted as the recommended infrastructure for the network. After the Eggfruit upgrade, every infrastructure provider will have to use the cdk-erigon RPC Node. This step helps in achieving a more centralized and coherent approach to network management. As the launch date approaches, stakeholders are encouraged to prepare for the transition, ensuring their systems are updated for the new infrastructure.

As previously reported by Crypto News Flash, recent advancements show that Polygon’s Proof of Stake (PoS) blockchain is slowly emerging as a significant platform for tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs). Increasingly, financial institutions are using Polygon PoS to tokenize RWAs and gain access to new sources of funding.

The PoS network is expanding due to the on-chain adoption and improvement of the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector. With the growing need for tokenization, Polygon PoS is a reliable option for institutions seeking to update their asset management strategies.
