A new racing franchise called Lollipop has been launched from a collaboration between blockchain protocol provider Polygon Labs, and the entertainment studio and technology company behind the popular The Fast and The Furious movie, Feature. The project is reportedly being written by David Ayer and Chris Long of Cedar Park Studios.
Feature CEO Steven Ilous said in a statement:
We’re ecstatic to be working with Polygon Labs on this game-changing project, Lollipop. Polygon technology will form an essential part of the experience as we bring this next-generation storytelling project to people all around the world.
The partnership would launch Lollipop as a unique content experience featuring episodic streaming elements, gaming, as well as professional sports. Through tech-enabled gamification, the audience would be able to actively participate in a narrative-driven racing circuit. There have been concerns about a huge gap between content and technology, and the release of Lollipop marks a major milestone in bridging this gap. In addition, the entertainment experiences would be largely revolutionized. Feature is also expected to benefit a lot from this collaboration as it seeks to usher into a new era of storytelling.
Lollipop would involve Polygon-based NFTs. However, Steven Ilous prefers to call it digital collectibles due to the negative stigma attached to it.
We don’t really use the word NFTs.But there’s digital collectibles, there is a streaming narrative component, and there is gamification.
Feature to use Polygon blockchain to incorporate gamification
The expected content is said to be a multi-dimensional one as it focuses on creators and their communities. Using the Polygon blockchain technology, the project would incorporate gamification, artificial intelligence, user-generated content, and ownership into their projects. Feature has recently seen great success as it partners with Netflix to campaign for Love Death + Robots. It is now collaborating with an independent film studio Cedar Park Studios, founded by David Ayer and Chris Long.
Recently, Polygon announced a partnership with Web3 gaming firm Immutable to accelerate innovation and adoption in the crypto game in space. Robbie Ferguson, co-founder and president of Immutable, believes that Polygon could help them avoid Ethereum congestion and cost without going through the stress to build its alternative.
Ferguson and Ryan Wyatt, president of Polygon Labs, hinted that the partnership was strategic as game building on both platforms received $2 billion in investor funding.
For me, this is like the next evolution of mainstream adoption. You’re already starting to see blockchain games with higher fidelity…Polygon is a very clean, well-polished end-to-end solution and market for game developers and gamers, Wyatt said. There’s been some skepticism about where this can go and what is it going to look like […] now you’re going to see it go into overdrive these next couple of years.
According to Ferguson, the two companies can help to scale transactions 100 to 1,000 times more. Polygon has worked with several gaming companies including Square Enix, Neowiz, Midnight Society, Plai Labs, and Tilting Point. Its layer-2 scaling solution has also reportedly seen a considerable increase in adoption.
