- The Polkadot Blockchain Academy launches its first course for policymakers, focusing on blockchain fundamentals and crypto regulation.
- UK lawmakers, led by Dr. Lisa Cameron, will attend the three-day pilot in Zug, Switzerland, starting February 17.
The Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) has launched the first blockchain course designed for political policymakers. The program, titled Blockchain Basics for Policymakers, will educate government officials and civil servants on core blockchain principles.
The goal is to provide knowledge for crafting crypto-related laws. The initial course will occur in Zug, Switzerland, starting February 17 at 12:00 PM UTC. A group of UK lawmakers, led by former MP Dr. Lisa Cameron, will attend the three-day pilot session.
The course will last three days and cover blockchain fundamentals, regulatory approaches, and methods to implement safeguards for technologies like AI. Delegations from other countries will join future editions of the program. Dr. Cameron, who helped draft the UK’s 2022 report on crypto development, will guide the UK delegation. Her work previously gained support from UK City Minister Andrew Griffiths.
The launch aligns with recent UK government efforts to prioritize technology. Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently announced a £14 billion plan to expand AI initiatives, including 13,250 new tech jobs. The PBA course aims to help policymakers understand blockchain’s role in this context. Chrissy Hill, a leader at Parity Technologies, will participate in the pilot. Hill stated that policymakers need structured education to create balanced regulations for blockchain.
Pauline Cohen Vorms, CEO of PBA, emphasized the program’s focus on education as a tool for progress. She noted that the course will enable officials to engage with blockchain more effectively. After completing the training, UK lawmakers will return to Parliament with clearer insights into blockchain’s applications in governance and business.
The PBA, founded by Polkadot creators like Dr. Gavin Wood, offers courses for developers and professionals. Graduates often join blockchain projects or start their own companies. The policymaker program marks the academy’s first step toward educating non-technical leaders.
