  • Joe Biden, the current President of the United States is being referred to as a Bitcoin maximalist after a recent tweet.
  • Biden might be attempting to appeal to Bitcoin maximalists, some players insist, adding that the President might not be informed about digital currencies.

Joe Biden, the current President of the United States is being referred to by crypto players as a “Bitcoin maximalist.”

Cryptocurrency community members, particularly Bitcoin proponents, have kickstarted a conversation around Joe Biden, and his most recent Twitter post. According to some key players, Biden’s tweet could imply that the U.S. President is not only involved with crypto but also particularly interested in Bitcoin.

On the 3rd of August, President Biden shared a 9 seconds video of himself drinking coffee from a mug, and saying “I like my coffee dark.” The Bitcoin community was, however, more focused on the tag on the mug, which had an image of Biden with laser eyes, in between the figures “2024.”

Bitcoin proponents are speculating that the laser eyes might be a reference to a long-standing “bullish Bitcoin trend”, where investors and key figures added laser eyes to their profile pictures.

The “laser eyes” trend was introduced to the crypto market a while ago when key figures according to different social media platforms collectively sought to trigger a bull rally. The goal was for Bitcoin to tap $100,000 by the end of 2021.

Although the asset did not meet the market’s expectations, the laser eye trend lasted long enough to influence the likes of Tom Brady, Elon Musk, and Paris Hilton to take part in it and drive visibility.

Bitcoin struggles to reclaim the $30,000 price mark

Taking to Twitter, Gabor Gurbacs, a crypto investment strategist responsible for managing VanEck’s digital asset initiatives, quoted Biden’s tweet, saying the following;

Joe Biden is a Bitcoin maxi now. laser eyes and everything. Haters in disbelief. Next thing he could instruct the Fed to buy some Bitcoin to back the Dollar. Welcome Mr. President! Sorry about the “roast”.

Some Twitter users are suggesting that Joe Biden is attempting to appeal to and win over Bitcoin maximalists. Others are noting that the tweet from Biden is the “biggest endorsement of Bitcoin history.”

However, a handful of Twitter users insist that Joe Biden was not making a Bitcoin reference. One user goes further, to say that Biden might not even be fully educated on digital currencies like Bitcoin. The user wrote;

He doesn’t even know what Bitcoin is. Perhaps one of his prominent handlers is a bitcoiner. Otherwise they are just pandering until their policies reflect something more.

In response, Gabor Gurbacs pushed back on these claims, saying that the President certainly has a basic understanding of Bitcoin.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin bulls remain resilient as the new month unfolds. The word cryptocurrency failed to sustain momentum above the $30,000 price mark last month and has since failed to reclaim that price point. According to our data, Bitcoin is trading at a press time price of $29,195.
