DLT applications move more and more into the mainstream, with everyone leaning on the technology for various purposes. Recently, a musician from Italy used IOTA to certify the authenticity of her work. The development was confirmed in a Reddit post from earlier this week.
The Redditor, named “Beginning Alps,” explained that she has used IOTA to protect an artist’s work. Describing the process, the Redditor explained that a user merely needs to create a webpage to describe their product. From there, they can take a picture of the product with a unique identification number.
The picture is then uploaded to an InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) server. IPFS is a prominent protocol used to share and store data in distributed file systems across peer-to-peer networks. It uses content addressing to uniquely identify each file in the system, while also connecting all devices on the network and allowing them to access it.
As she explained, the user can upload the photo and create a message. The message will act as the product’s digital originality certificate, and it will include the link to the site built and a link to the uploaded photo. The user then creates an IOTA transaction and can insert the links to the photo in the IOTA explorer. They will be able to see the digital certificate from there.
“If someone would sell a similar product as authentic, he would hardly be able to create it with the same quality and if he tried to create a digital certificate to support its authenticity, well obviously the link would not be published on the artist’s web page,” the post added.
Recently the IOTA Tangle has received significant praise from industry insiders. One of the Reddit post’s comments highlighted its relative affordability to names like Ethereum, adding that IOTA could make competing blockchains obsolete.
IOTA progressing strong
The IOTA Foundation have also been working hard to improve the Tangle’s functionality. In August, they successfully implemented Chrysalis phase 1 which helped the Tangle to handle 1,000 transactions per second successfully. Phase 2 is scheduled to be released at the beginning of next year.
Last week, the IOTA Foundation announced that it would join the Christian Doppler Laboratory (CDL) in Austria as an industrial partner. The (CDL) is an institution housed at the Vienna University of Technology. It was recently opened, focusing on research and development in partnerships that seek to expand Tangle implementation in everyday use scenarios.
