As Crypto News Flash reported earlier, innovative ideas are currently being sought to make people’s everyday lives as smooth as possible in times of the Covid-19 virus. Within a Smart City, many processes are automated, so a pandemic like the coronavirus would not have a major impact on the everyday life of the people living there.
IOTA developer presents packstation prototype
IOTA is already being used in various cities, e.g. in Trondheim, to implement the Smart City concept. The city administration is to serve as a living laboratory to test the possibilities and potentials of IOTA. At the last IOTA VR Meetup a packstation prototype was presented, which transmits important data about orders between different actors within a decentralized open trading place.
Although this is a prototype for the time being, this use case shows how the tangle is used as a distributed ledger to manage important data about local transactions, corresponding products and orders in an open trading marketplace. The smart packstation covers only a small part of the ecosystem of devices that need to be built to serve the entire supply chain process.
The packstation is part of further research into a decentralized and commission-free purchasing platform to strengthen the local economy ‘Nile‘. The project seeks to enable people to compete alongside industry giants such as Amazon and Google, and to harness the power of the local community to avoid being lost in these highly competitive ecosystems.
The following video shows how to set up a smart packstation yourself, but the video tutorial is from last year, so further adjustments have been made until today. In addition, programming skills are required to completely rebuild the prototype.
