  • IOTA and DELL jointly make an impact in a growing market with 30 billion devices and 2.5 million apps.
  • LF Edge publishes a document to present some real-world use cases.

LF Edge, a San Francisco-based firm building an open-source framework for the Edge has released a document explaining its use cases and how its projects are making impacts in collaboration with IOTA. The document establishes that the delivery of accurate data is becoming challenging with nearly 30 billion devices in the world and 2.5 million apps. In the climate industry, several organizations have expressed concerns about accurately tracking their carbon footprint.

In addition, quantifying trust in data delivered from devices to applications is very problematic causing audit update emission measurements to be slow, expensive, and subjective.

At the VSPT Wine Group in Chile, there is a biodigestion energy and composting facility that need a solution to process data “from sensors measuring water, solids, gasses, and anaerobic digestion processes to provide continuous, real-time and trustworthy insights into the facility’s carbon footprint.

According to the report, there has been a challenge in certifying an emission reduction statement to accurately measure emission statements. With the collaboration between Dell Technologies, ZEDEDA, IOTA Foundation, and ClimateCHECK, Project Alvarium’s Data Confidence Fabric (DCF) framework, and Project EVE’s ability is taken advantage of to address these problems facing organizations to present cloud computing to remote areas.

More use-cases with the support of IOTA

A Digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (DigitalMRV) platform has been developed with the support of the Canadian and the Chilean government in addition to improving data confidence and trust in the VSPT wine group’s carbon footprint.

VSPT wine group has the world’s first BioGas Plant that uses harvest waste as its only fuel. The BioGas plant is run by Bio-E in Molina, Chile and Project Alvarium is used to annotate all inputs and generate a methane emission reduction statement. The plant’s aim is to supply the winery with electric and thermal energy using its own organic waste.”

The BioGas plants want to provide Viña San Pedro winery with 60 percent of its energy consumption as it harnesses 1MWh power. This is said to be the same average energy consumption of 3,200 homes in one month. With this, the Group has been able to create the first certified carbon-neutral wines and also obtained sustainability and organic certifications.

The Digital MRV approach sends all data across Project Alvarium’s DCF built on the IOTA Tangle… A Dell server with EVE pre-installed was shipped to the site where it was connected to the Internet. Thereafter, the applications (Alvarium, IOTA) were managed by their respective project teams, and the Dell server bare metal was secured and remotely configured and controlled over the secure EVE API (using the commercial SaaS EVE Controller offered by ZEDEDA).

The document also discloses that Data Confidence Fabric was built and deployed with actual hardware in a real-world environment. This improves Bio-E’s sharpness to understand how innovations affect carbon emissions, and also “lower barriers on carbon credit issuance and improve investment in sustainable technologies.”
