  • BUILD.5 talks about implementing different use cases using Confidential computing and implementing privacy-driven cloud computing solutions.
  • BUILD.5’s integration of IOTA and L1 Smart Contracts can also help implement a secure trusted execution layer that can be established across edge devices.

Last month, some of the biggest users of IOTA technology came together to a new platform BUILD.5. The BUILD.5 functions as a business and governance platform and enables easy transition of businesses from Web 2 to Web 3.

Now, BUILD.5 is working to showcase its capabilities while primarily working on the data privacy revolution. As a result, it has been implementing Confidential Computing (CC) technology for cloud as well as edge computing.

Confidential computing is a crucial and innovative technology that significantly enhances data security in public cloud settings. As nearly 96 percent of organizations globally are utilizing public cloud services, the influence of confidential computing will extend across various industries, including healthcare, military, banking, and commerce. The industry is currently experiencing a major shift towards adopting this breakthrough technology due to its positive impact on public cloud security.

BUILD.5 has been incorporating different use cases for Confidential Computing at their own end. By leveraging confidential computing and hardware-based privacy to enable the secure processing of transactions, BUILD.5 can now enshrine both security and data privacy into the DNA of the network.

For example, transactions can occur within a CPU enclave, within a Hornet node. That node can then be part of the BUILD.5 network via the iDOS Node Manager, which can also monetize traffic through the mana station. Voila, is a sustainable, lightweight, secure, economically driven, node infrastructure, delivered on demand to enterprise customers through BUILD.5.

Moreover, CC enhances the built-in security of L1 Smart Contracts (SCs) by enabling them to run on a hardware-based enclave. This ensures that the data processed by the contract is encrypted and kept confidential during runtime.

BUILD.5 Working on Edge-Computing Solutions

The internet now has over 15 billion connected devices, which means more than 2 devices for each person globally. This number is continuously growing, putting pressure on cloud-based systems to handle the increasing bandwidth requirements. To tackle this challenge, networks are adopting edge computing, a set of technologies that bring data processing closer to the source. Edge computing improves security, enables real-time, low-latency decision-making, and is vital for mobility, IoT, AR/VR systems, and smart cities.

Edge networks, being in close proximity to people and operations, naturally contain a vast amount of sensitive and personal information. This makes them susceptible to new security threats, which can even surpass those found in traditional cloud environments. The presence of numerous devices stored in various edge servers at different locations creates potential risk vectors.

In this setting, blockchain serves as a crucial safeguarding mechanism. It ensures data integrity through immutability and decentralized consensus, making it challenging for unauthorized alterations to occur, whether remotely or physically, given the close proximity of edge networks. BUILD.5 relies on the IOTA blockchain, providing not only the secure native features of DLTs but also the advantages of its lightweight protocol, designed for scalability and cost-effectiveness.

Edge projects often involve a large number of devices, posing significant security challenges for organizations. With Confidential Computing (CC) enabled devices, edge automation tasks can be securely isolated in a protected enclave, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

In combination with BUILD.5’s integration of IOTA and L1 Smart Contracts, a secure trusted execution layer can be established across these edge devices. By incorporating Mana through Mana Station and proven BUILD.5 L1 smart contracts, consistent and trusted decentralized execution of business logic becomes possible.

Using Red Hat Openshift, BUILD.5 establishes a secure trusted execution layer across all edge devices, including the Hamburg nodes and supply chain’s last mile. The IOTA ledger maintains an immutable record of goods, while BUILD.5 supplies the key commodity of Mana through Mana Station and proven composable L1 smart contracts, ensuring reliable and decentralized execution of business logics.
