  • The IOTA team has been recently working on the ConflictDAG Refractor and might announce a merge with a final MVP codebase.
  • The launch of the ShimmerEVM testnet last week bring us closer to the launch of IOTA 2.0 scheduled later this year.

As we know, the IOTA team has been working on the launch of IOTA 2.0 infrastructure ahead of this year. Last month in March, there was considerable progress in this direction with the launch of the ShimmerEVM testnet and more things.

Last week, the IOTA team was on a research summit outlining the next steps for the Layer-1 developments as well as the release of IOTA 2.0. Hans Moog from the IOTA developers team has been working on the ConflictDAG Refractor while adding a few test cases to check the behavior of the ConflictDAG. Additionally, developer Moog worked on other minor DAG fixes.

Twitter handle ID.iota explains that in the coming week, there’s a possibility of a merge of the ConflictDAG along with a final MVP codebase.

Furthermore, Andreas and Jonas from the IOTA developer team have been working on the node startup behavior and whether it started from the disk. ID.iota notes: “Besides the node startup, Andrea also opened a new PR already cleaning up the code around the changes introduced with the new ConflictDAG. So as i said the last time, the refactor seems to be pretty successful. Now the code base around gets adapted”.

More About the IOTA 2.0 Architecture

The road to IOTA 2.0 goes through the successful launch of ShimmerEVM which will allow Shimmer users to connect their SMR wallets with smart contracts running on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

Last week, the IOTA developers successfully launched the ShimmerEVM testnet which highlights the ability to expand the reach of the scalable and interoperable Shimmer protocol. In this testnet phase, the goal of developers is to test and validate the ShimmerEVM which will help in discovering bugs and issue improvements ahead of the mainnet launch.

The goal of the launch of IOTA 2.0 is to drastically improve the performance of the IOTA blockchain by offering better scalability, better security, as well as greater decentralization. Furthermore, IOTA 2.0 will be a permissionless blockchain allowing anyone to join the platform. As per the current plan, the IOTA 2.0 platform will provide scalability to the tune of 10,000 nodes and 1000 mps, thus making it suitable for sharding solutions.

Last month, the research engineer at IOTA 2.0 also highlighted the ongoing work on the GoShimmer protocol which is a prototype node software that will explore the implementation of IOTA 2.0. Note that the true capabilities of the IOTA 2.0 will unleash only after the ShimmerEVM goes live.
