- Tomer Weller helped shape Stellar’s smart contract system and cross-chain integrations.
- He bridges tech with people by simplifying complex blockchain ideas publicly.
Some people start their careers with a neat plan, while others break the boundaries of logic and forge their own path. Tomer Weller is the latter. Who would have thought that the man who once helped build a skydiving robot would now be one of the important figures in the crypto space.
He is not just a technologist, but someone who calmly sews the connections between blockchain infrastructure and real human needs—from microtransactions to cross-blockchains.
Tomer Weller: From Skydiving Robots to Blockchain Tech
Before being known as a big name at the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), Tomer took a technical path from various sides. He has worked as an Android developer, full-stack engineer, and performance engineer.
However, what stole the most attention was his work with a project called Paradroid—an autonomous robot that can float in the air, guided by an Android phone attached to its body. Not many people can say they built a skydiving robot, but Tomer can.
His educational background is also in line with the uniqueness of his career. He completed his undergraduate degree at The Hebrew University and continued his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to earn a master’s degree.
Armed with a strong technical background and experience, he then stepped into the blockchain world—a space that is far from stable but very promising.
Shaping Stellar’s Tech and Smart Contract Future
At Stellar, Tomer started his career as an engineer, but quickly transformed into one of the driving forces of its technology direction. He now serves as Chief Product Officer (CPO), a position that requires not only an understanding of technology, but also an intuition to read the direction of market needs.
One of the important milestones he helped build was Soroban, a smart contract platform on the Stellar network. For some, smart contracts are just an additional feature, but for Tomer, this is a path to open the door to more flexible financial services.
He wants to make Stellar not only fast and cheap, but also able to facilitate the complexity that modern financial applications require.
Furthermore, he also helps build bridges to other blockchains, such as through the integration of Allbridge. This is not just a technology project, but a concrete step so that digital assets can move without friction, similar to bank transfers—only faster and open to anyone.
Speaking Human in a World of Code
However, Tomer is not the type of leader who only speaks in technical terms. He actively interacts with the developer community through “Tech Talks with Tomer” sessions and also various AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions on social media.
For many people, this is a window into the world of Stellar without having to be a code expert. He simplifies complicated things, such as explaining why interoperability is important or how DeFi can reach ordinary people in developing countries.
In one of his latest interviews, Tomer touched on the convergence of traditional finance and decentralized finance. He sees a future where the two do not need to compete, but can instead complement each other. “We are building technology that can be used by everyone, not just those who understand code,” is more or less the gist of it.
Solving Big Problems Like It’s No Big Deal
Despite being in a strategic position now, Tomer maintains a down-to-earth approach. He does not speak in jargon, but explains as if he is chatting with an old friend. This may be what makes him different. In a crypto space that is often noisy with terms and hype, Tomer chooses a quieter path—prioritizing function and access.
If we look at everything he’s accomplished so far, it all boils down to one thing: making the complex simple and useful. From robots that can fall out of the sky to sophisticated protocols that can bridge digital currencies, they all have one thing in common: Tomer Weller has always built with a clear purpose in mind.
And while he’s now a household name across the global blockchain community, the way he talks and works shows that he’s still an engineer at heart—someone who sees a problem and immediately thinks, “Okay, how do I solve this?” No frills needed.
