• A new feature for the Ethereum Name Service allows its users to create a decentralized website. The feature is part of the ENS Manager.

The Ethereum Name Service announced a new tool that allows the creation of decentralized websites. The tool is part of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) Manager and uses the interplanetary file system (IPFS) pinning service through an integration with Temporal Cloud. The tool allows for easy uploading and access to files on the IPFS with the ENS Manager.

How to use the Ethereum Name Service Manager?

The ENS is a naming system and an Ethereum-based lookup system that provides domain names. The names of these domains are distributed and anyone can acquire and manage them. A feature of the ENS is that being built on the Ethereum blockchain it is more decentralized and resistant to censorship than the Domain Name Service (DNS) on the Internet.

To use the ENS on a desktop computer, users only need a Web3 search engine such as Google Chrome or Brave. The former requires the MetaMask extension and the latter its built-in Crypto Wallet. The ENS can be used on a cell phone by using search engines in apps such as Status, MetaMask Mobile and Trust Wallet, among others, except for the Coinbase wallet, for now.

The user has to own ETH, if not he first has to buy Ethereum (ETH) first. ETH will be used to pay the transaction fee on the Ethereum network. The user must also have an .ETH name. If the user does not have a .ETH name already, they can log in here and register a new domain.

After completing this process, users can go to the ENS Manager and search for their ETH name and create a Content record, if they do not have one. The content record can be created through the menu by pressing the + icon. Then press “New Upload” on the right side of the menu. In addition, users must create or have an account in the Temporal Cloud. The registration and account creation process in Temporal Cloud is free of charge. The creation of the cloud account allows users to have immediate access to 3 GB of data, once their email address is verified. Content uploaded to the cloud will be placed on the IPFS network for 12 months.

Once the user has logged in to his account, he must press the “Folder Upload” option to upload files, as shown in the image below. Then the user must complete the last step:

The file is uploaded to IPFS, but the IPFS hash hasn’t been saved to your ENS name’s Content record yet. To do this, click “Save”. Your web3 browser will ask you to confirm the transaction to save the record.

Once these steps are completed and the transaction is confirmed on the Ethereum network, the user will be able to visit their new decentralized website. The publication of the ENS team, concludes the following:
