  • The MoonDAO protocol has integrated the Chainlink VFR solution.
  • The integration will be used to power the competition to feature in the forthcoming Zero-Gravity Flight.

MoonDAO has successfully integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on the Ethereum (ETH) mainnet to facilitate a fair process of choosing the winner for a Zero-Gravity flight. To ensure that this exercise is conducted in a transparent manner, access to a tamper-proof and verifiable source of randomness is required and this is exactly what the Chainlink VRF offers.

MoonDAO is the decentralized autonomous organization charged with the mission to create a self-sustaining, self-governing settlement on the moon by 2030. It is an international collective whose mission is to push humanity into space to explore the world while also maintaining the principles of Web 3.0 which includes decentralization, inclusivity, and transparency.

Members of the MoonDAO community have been granted a chance to compete and win a Zero-G flight experience, after which the winner would get to join American engineer and astronaut Doug Hurley and his colleague Nicole Stott in zero gravity. Meanwhile, interested participants would be required to purchase a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) ticket for them to compete.

In the end, the winner together with the two astronauts would try to create a weightless environment by flying in parabolic arcs. This would serve as a simulation of outer space giving the winner the right environment to float, flip, and soar.

Markedly, this would be the second time MoonDAO is leveraging the Chainlink VRF tool. Last year, the DAO used the verifiable Random Number Generation (RNG) solution to successfully pick a winner from a public draw who won an NFT ticket to travel to space.

Hence, the MoonDAO is convinced that the tool is bias-free and would provide transparent, tamper-proof results. Pablo Moncada-Larrotiz, Founder at MoonDAO believes that without Chainlink VRF which would provide a tamper-proof and verifiable source of randomness, it would be very difficult for entrants to verify the fairness of the competition.

Additionally, the Chainlink VRF helps strengthen the integrity of the competition and helps assure all entrants that they stand a fair chance of winning this life-changing adventure via on-chain transparency.

How Does The Chainlink VRF Work?

For every time that there is a new request for a random outcome, the Chainlink VRF generates both a random number and a proof off-chain that is cryptographic in nature.

This states the determination of the number. It delivers on-chain and the cryptographic proof is then verified and published on-chain before other consumer applications utilize the random number. Hence, it leaves no chance for data to be altered or tampered for the benefit of any entrant.

During last year’s Christmas holiday, Web3 product studio VenturePunk integrated the VRF with its NFT Gift Exchange Santa.fm on the ETH mainnet. The idea behind this was to ensure that VenturePunk fairly shuffled its gift array such that each gift redeems a different NFT. The Guntherrichdog NFT collection also hinted at a possible integration of the Chainlink VRF a few months ago.
