  • Cardano continues to make great strides towards the launch of Shelley. Currently, the rebranding strategy with McCann Dublin is being finalized and the documentation is being completed.
  • As Charles Hoskinson also explained, the Shelley hard fork will take place approximately 4 weeks after the release of the Shelley client.

During a new video update Charles Hoskinson informed about the progress in the marketing of Cardano. As the CEO of IOHK explained, he recently met with McCann, who are working on a rebranding campaign for Cardano. As CNF reported, the rebranding is to take place in parallel with the launch of Shelley along with the virtual launch party. The aim of the campaign is to promote the adaptation of Cardano and to make the protocol more present in the face of the growing demand for blockchain solutions.

The first result of McCann Dublin will be the completely redesigned Cardano.org website, Hoskinson noted. The website will be “role-specific”, i.e. optimized for the user, depending on whether it is a company that wants to use Cardano or a user who wants to learn how staking and delegation works. Once this step is completed, the corporate design will be rolled out across all other platforms.

Hoskinson also explained that there is currently a strong focus on documenting the code. Companies that want to use Cardano technology need adequate documentation to drive their own developments based on it. For this reason, the documentation will also receive a separate sub-domain on Cardano.org. IOHK recently published 178 pages of documentation on monitoring functions, which has not been unnoticed in the ADA community.

Regarding the release of Daedalus V.1.0.0, Hoskinson said that IOHK has received about 100 tickets through the help desk, mainly concerning unsupported operating systems, most notably Windows 7. As Windows has already discontinued support, Hoskinson did not give affected users any hope that there would be an upgrade, but advised them to check the Yoroi wallet. As Hoskinson further stated, IOHK intends to “make it more difficult” to install Daedalus 1.0.0 on unsupported operating systems.

Updates on the progress of Shelley

As reported by CNF, Cardano’s technical director, Duncan Coutts, recently succeeded in mining the first block within an internal Shelley testnet via a dedicated node. Hoskinson commented on this, saying it was a huge step forward as it proves that all the components that were developed separately can function together. However, there are still “some rough edges” that the IOHK development team is currently working on.

Once this work is complete, there will be a test network for “friends and family” and subsequently a public test network. Within this network, everyone will be able to create a Cardano node via a command line, as well as perform staking and delegation to stake pools. However, the testnet will be aimed primarily at stake pool operators.

Once they give their okay, there will be a “balance check testnet”, which also addresses Cardano (ADA) owners. This will be a kind of beta of Shelley. If this test is also successful, the new Shelley client will be released, which contains the Byron and Shelley code. However, the Shelley code will not be activated until the hard fork, 4 weeks after the client is released. In conclusion Hoskinson explained:

So Shelley is a done deal, we are marching towards it. We have a good strategy, I think, to get us there. And I think the virtual summit gonna be a phenomenal event in terms of timing and when we announce it. When we launch the first Haskell testnet, […] we will also launch the website for the virtual summit and registration for it.
