- Updates on Cardano’s development progress will be made under a new format every 2 weeks.
- Introduced new version of GHC- 8.10 for the development of smart contracts on Cardano for Plutus platform.
IOHK has introduced a new format for publishing updates related to the development of Goguen. Via Twitter, Cardano’s developer company reported that every 2 weeks they will release a video update on Goguen with Dimitris Poulopoulos, Goguen Project Manager, and Volodymyr Hulchenko, Cardano Project Manager.
The new format has been conceived to be a space where users and the Cardano community can have a panoramic view of the progress in the different projects that make up the Cardano ecosystem, specifically Goguen and its associated components. In addition, the developers will present a roadmap of what users can expect between each update.
Progress on Ledger, Plutus, and Marlowe for Cardano
In this first series, Hulchenko and Poulopoulos spoke about the progress of the Ledger, Plutus, and Marlowe teams. The first of these projects has had three major updates as it completes the support for Token Locking added to the Cardano Ledger wallet with a native token implementation.
This feature allows users to make transactions with multiple assets. The team has made a change in the Consensus to support both of the above features. Hulchenko said progress on this project is “progressing very well”.
Poulopoulos referred to the progress of the Plutus team. It’s been a while since major progress on this project has been reported, but the Project Manager said this has been done to provide “a good experience” for developers of smart contracts on Plutus.
Currently, the Plutus team operates with two parallel workflows after going through an expansion in its staff. The next goal of the Plutus team is to refresh the Plutus Playground which will work with a simulated version of Cardano, but will allow users to “familiarized with the Playground UI”.
Developers will have a Proof of Concept for the Plutus Core section. This has been enabled to ensure that there are “top-level bindings” through serialization. The Plutus team continues to review these tools and has released a version of the GHC- 8.10 integrated into haskell.nix, according to Poulopoulos. The new version allows the development of Cardano nodes, Plutus, among others.
Finally, significant progress has been made in Cardano’s decentralized finance capabilities with the financial contracts in Marlowe. Poulopoulos stated that they have received a positive response from the community about the Marlowe Alpha program. At the same time, the team has introduced new educational material about Marlowe that can be accessed from YouTube. The team is focusing on “upcoming releases in line with the Plutus Application framework readiness”.
