Start by visiting the official site and download the wallet (click!). By clicking on the link, you will be directed to the website where you can download the wallet. Scroll down a bit and then click on the “Download Electrum” button.
You’ll then land on a page where you need to choose the appropriate wallet for your operating system. If you are using Windows, select the Windows wallet version. For example, if you’re on Windows, click on the “Windows Installer” button (see image: red arrow). If you want the app for Android, select the Android version accordingly:
Once the file is downloaded, click on the setup file. Choose the directory where you’d like the wallet to be installed and click “Install.” The installation should only take a couple of minutes. After installation, click “Close.”
Congratulations! The wallet is now installed. Start the Tezos Electrum Wallet by double-clicking the Electrum icon on your desktop. The software will first ask how you’d like to connect to a server. As a beginner, we recommend selecting “Auto connect.”
The Electrum software will then detect that you have not yet created a wallet. Simply click “Continue,” and you can give the wallet a name if desired. After clicking “Next,” you’ll be prompted to generate a seed. We recommend using the “Segwit” option as it’s the most commonly used address format. The seed is a 12-word phrase, which acts as your key to the wallet if you lose your password or experience a computer failure. It’s crucial that you write this seed down and store it in a safe place, preferably on paper.
In the next step, you’ll need to re-enter the seed to confirm. Once successful, Electrum will ask you to create a password. The longer, the better—make sure it includes numbers and special characters. You will use this password every time you access your wallet, so keep it secure.
Now you’re ready to use the Electrum Wallet. You can find the “Receiving Address” in the top right corner under the “Receive” column.
