  • The Italian food brand ICAB La Fiammante has announced that it will implement VeChain’s traceability solution called My Story™.
  • The Chinese food producer Yuhongtai Foods Co. Ltd. will use the VeChain ToolChain™ to track products along the complete value chain.

Counterfeit products cause losses of more than 323 billion USD every year, according to the statistics website Statista.com. Not only the companies themselves are affected, but also consumers when they consume a counterfeit product that does not have the same characteristics as the original. VeChain provides an effective solution to this problem, which will adapt two other heavyweights of the food industry.

ICAB La Fiammante uses My Story™

ICAB La Fiammante, an Italian food brand with more than 70 years of history, has announced that the company will use the traceability solution My Story™, co-developed by DNV GL. Initially, the VeChainThor block chain will be used in a pilot project to record information on the production and transport of Italian tomatoes.

My Story™ is a block chain-based tracking solution that can be used to document and track products of all kinds from the point of production to the end user. ICAB La Fiammante states that My Story™ collects all data along the value chain and stores them in the block chain in a tamper-proof manner.

La Fiammente is a globally active company in the canning industry with a long tradition, dating back to the 1950s. The ICAB Group is also responsible for the prominent brands La Reale and Paesana. If the test results are successful, the production data on all products will be readable via a QR code on the packaging.

Yuhongtai Foods Co. Ltd. also uses VeChain

On June 2, 2020 Yuhongtai Foods Co. Ltd. announced the use of the VeChain ToolChain™. All production data will be completely documented by the traceability solution and stored in the VeChainThor Blockchain. The solution provided by VeChain will also be used for premium meat products of the wholly owned subsidiary Meijiada Fresh Foods.

Meijiada Fresh Foods is a chain of stores based in the Chinese megacity of Shenzhen that specializes in the fresh meat and vegetable market. The company is known for its first-class product quality and unique taste. All manufactured products are monitored by a standardized management from procurement to sale. All fresh meat products are sold on the same day to ensure high quality.

However, this process is cumbersome and outdated, so Meijiada Fresh Foods decided to use the VeChain ToolChain™. By converting the process to the VeChain ToolChain™ the company can save a lot of time and money:

Using VeChain ToolChain™, Meijiada is now able to upload key supply chain data of their products such as origin, processing flow, logistics information, date of packaging, as well as marketing information and more to the VeChainThor blockchain.

By means of a QR code on the packaging of the food products, the end consumer will be able to view additional information and thus seamlessly verify the production and authenticity of all products. This process will initially be used for premium pork products under the Yuncha Minzhu brand. However, the company plans to enter the e-commerce market in the coming weeks, reaching millions of potential customers and expanding the technology to other products.

VeChain has thus been able to win two further important partners who are using this promising technology.
