- An approved amendment introduces a function to delete accounts on the XRP Ledger. Users who delete their accounts can receive 75% of their funds.
- The amendment was introduced on May 8 at 4:29 UTC through the ledger 55,313, according to XRPSCAN.
According to the block explorer XRPSCAN, an amendment has been passed that allows deletable accounts on Ripple’s XRP ledger. The amendment was voted on according to the XRP ledger governance model and was adopted with 80% approval after the required 15 days, as reported by Arturo Padilla, former manager of XRPCentre.
Will Ripple have the power to delete your account?
The amendment was first discussed in October 2019. It was proposed as a mechanism to deter “abusive behavior” and suspicious accounts. According to Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, suspicious spam accounts in the XRP ledger can be removed and funds can be reclaimed from the account once approved. According to XRPSCAN, the change was activated by the XRPSCAN ledger 55,313,921 at 4:29 UTC on May 8, 2020. XRPSCAN has posted the following via Twitter:
Voting for Deletable Accounts amendment has concluded and this change is now active. It should be possible to delete your accounts and recover 75% of your reserve balance.
At the time when the proposal first became known, the function was criticized as contrary to the principles of a decentralized network. At present, it is not known which accounts are considered to be spam and what the criteria are for deleting an account. However, in principle, only users with the private key will be able to delete their accounts, and not, as originally assumed, a central authority person.
At the end of February, Schwartz spoke about the change procedure used to approve the deletable account function. At that time, Schwartz emphasized that a particular change must be 80% supported for 15 days, otherwise the approval cycle would have to start all over again. According to Ripple’s CTO, these and other changes made with the change process should promote user confidence and prevent inadvertent forks of the network.

Ripple fosters the XRP Ledger and token
As reported by CNF, Ripple is in the process of extending XRP Ledger and creating new use cases for the XRP token. One of the projects to achieve this is the development of a new trading platform, allegedly based on the On Demand Liquidity payment solution and XRP. Two job postings about open positions of Ripple have thrown up references to the platform. However, the project is still in its early stages, so further details on its development, purpose and functionality remain to be seen.
